Nursing Services - Peter Mac Cancer Centre

| We share a view that nurses make a major contribution to the health and well-being outcomes of people with cancer and their families. Nurses achieve this through innovative approaches to complex problems and through being prepared to speak up when the needs of a person with cancer, their families or those caring for them are not being met. Our goal is to remove the limits nurses feel constrain them from achieving more and then to back this up with opportunities to strive for excellence. At Peter Mac the nursing leadership group is committed to fostering an environment where the potential for nurses to lead healthcare improvements can be realised. We do this by encouraging nurses to engage in critique of practice, by providing opportunities for nurses to extend their learning through education, research and practice, and by strengthening the roles of nurses across the organisation. These opportunities range from free access to a wide range of short course programs, subsidised access to formal programs in cancer nursing, participation in research and research training, through creative role development , funding to attend and present nursing work at conferences and through mentorship to communicate what we do in publications. Nurses at Peter Mac are recognised as important contributors to cancer care and regularly are promoted into roles designed to improve the quality of care provided within the organisation. Nurses at Peter Mac are part of a dynamic, knowledge thirsty, learning organisation. It is an exciting place to work with innovation, excellence and compassion (our core values) celebrated in all we do and achieve. Why not consider a career in nursing at Peter Mac and help us to ‘make the difference’ in the lives of people affected by cancer. | ||||
| Peter Mac is a 94 bed public hospital, dedicated to the care of and treatment of patients with cancer and is the only stand-alone cancer hospital in Australia. As nurses, we value our culture of patient centred care and evidence based nursing practice. We provide a supportive and positive environment that enables nurses to reach their potential and deliver excellent care to patients and their families. Our clinical nursing structure supports career advancement and innovative leadership opportunities to roles such as practice development nurses and nurse coordinators. Peter Mac offers a variety of learning and professional development opportunities for nurses through nursing education, nursing and supportive care research, and human resources. In March 2007, Peter Mac entered a partnership with Royalbank to assist in the centralised management of the casual nursing workforce. Royalbank utilises a web-based software program to fill staffing shortfalls across all clinical areas within Peter Mac and ensures our casual nursing workforce are employed in response to the needs of the patients. | ||||
