Professor Lester Peters AM, MD, FRANZCR, FRCR, FACR, Chairman
(appointed March 2002) Prof Lester Peters is a Professor of Radiation Oncology within the University of Melbourne. He was formerly Director of Radiation Oncology at Peter Mac (1995-2001) and the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston (1982-1995). He was Dean of the Faculty of Radiation Oncology, Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists 2003-4, and is currently a member of the College Council. Mr Robert Kirby BCom, Deputy Chairman (appointed March 2002) Mr Robert Kirby is Chairman of Village Roadshow Corporation Ltd and Deputy Chairman and Executive Director of Village Roadshow Ltd. Until November 2002, Mr Kirby served as a director of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He is a member of the Patrons Council of the Epilepsy Foundation. Mr Ian Allen OAM BEc, MAdmin, FAIM (appointed 3 October 2008) Mr Ian Allen OAM’s business career has spanned over thirty years as an executive in the Victorian electricity industry and the Victorian public sector followed by over sixteen years will Pratt Holdings Pty Ltd. Mr Allen is a trustee of The Pratt Foundation, the Pratt Family Foundation, Visy Cares, The Pratt Group Scholarship Fund, the Carlton Football Club Foundation and a board member of The Link Centre Ltd, Meadow Heights Learning Shop Inc, the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, the Australian Council for Children and Youth Organisations, Youth Junction Inc, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and a council member of Lakeside Secondary College. Mr Allen is a Peter Mac patient and a cancer survivor. Mr Stewart Baron B.Juris, LLB (appointed May 2002) Mr Stewart Baron is Managing Director of Baron Corporation Pty Ltd, which specialises in residential, commercial and industrial property development, domestic and worldwide private equity and fund infrastructure investment. Mr Baron is Vice President of the Mount Scopus Memorial College Foundation, and is a member of the Young President’s Organisation Melbourne Chapter. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School OPM. Mr Craig Bennett MSc (Health Econ), BEcon (Hons), FCHSE (appointed June 2004) Mr Craig Bennett is the Chief Executive Officer of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He was formerly the Chief Executive of the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth from 1998 until 2004, as well as Area Chief Executive of the North Metropolitan Health Service in Perth from 2002 until 2004. Mr Bennett is a health economist by training and has held senior management positions in both the private and public healthcare sectors in Australia and overseas. He is currently a member of the Council of the Anti-Cancer Council of Victoria, the Victorian Advisory Committee of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards, the Victorian Health Service Management Innovation Council and the Board of Health Purchasing Victoria. Mrs Eva Besen AO (appointed April 2002) Eva Besen is a founding Director of Sussan Corporation (Aust.) Pty Ltd. Since the early 80’s she has also been an active member of the National Gallery Women’s Association. From 1981 to 1985, Eva co-convened the Friends of Peter Mac. She was a Director of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute Board from 1985 to 1995, during which time she chaired the Institute’s Fundraising Committee. In 1991 she was appointed Deputy Chairperson to the Peter MacCallum Capital Appeal Cabinet and from 1997 until 2000 Eva was a member of the Community Advisory Committee of the Inner and Eastern Health Care Network. Professor David Copolov MB BS, PhD, FRANZCP, FRACP, MPM, DPM (appointed November 2004) A psychiatric researcher of international standing, Prof Copolov has written over 230 peer-reviewed articles, primarily on schizophrenia. He is also a Director of the Peter Mac Cancer Centre Board and Chair of its Research Advisory Committee. He was the Director of the Mental Health Research Institute from 1985 to 2004 and is currently the Senior Advisor, Office of the Vice Chancellor and President at Monash University. He is also Professor of Psychiatry at Monash University and at the University of Melbourne and is a Director of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation. Mr Paul Dainty (appointed October 2006) Mr Paul Dainty is the Chairman and CEO of Dainty Consolidated Entertainment (‘DCE’). Prior to establishing DCE, Mr Dainty can point to a long and distinguished entrepreneurial career over 25 years as a key player in Australia’s entertainment and media industries. Over this time, he has developed strong and lasting relationships with many of the world’s finest performers, managers, agents and producers. DCE is a joint venture company between PD Entertainment Corporation and Consolidated Press Holdings. Mr Dean Howell FCA (appointed August 2003) Mr Dean Howell is a former senior partner of BDO Kendalls (Melbourne), a leading firm of chartered accountants and management consultants. Mr Howell has had a career spanning 40 years and is now a consultant to the firm. Mr Howell is also a director of Housewares International Ltd. Mrs Rosie Lew (appointed March 2002) Mrs Rosie Lew has family interests in a diverse range of retail and investment companies. Mrs Lew is well known for her support of charitable causes, her advocacy of philanthropy and her fundraising galas. She has served on numerous fundraising committees, raising funds for health, education and the arts and was a major benefactor and active fundraiser for Peter Mac’s Capital Appeal. Mr David Moffatt B Bus (appointed May 2002) David Moffatt is Group Managing Director, Telstra Consumer and was formerly Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Telstra, Mr Moffatt was Chief Executive Officer, General Electric (Australian and New Zealand) and has over twenty years experience in Business Leadership and Financial Management roles in Australia, the United States and New Zealand. Mr Allan Myers AO QC BA, LLB (Hons), BCL (Oxon) (appointed May 2009) Allan Myers is one of Her Majesty’s Counsel (Queen’s Counsel) in all States and Territories of Australia and a barrister in England and Papua New Guinea. For 30 years he has practised continuously as a barrister principally in Victoria. His practice has been predominantly in aspects of commercial law, with emphasis on company, revenue law and trade practices law. He has frequently advised in relation to transactions under the laws of other countries. Mr Myers is currently President of the Council of Trustees of the National Gallery of Victoria, Founder and Chairman of The Grattan Institute, Governor of the Ian Potter Foundation, Board Member of the Florey Neurosciences Institute, Board Member of the Pugin Foundation, Director of a publicly listed company in Europe and Director of many private companies in Australia and overseas. Dr Paula Pitt OAM MB BS (Hons) (appointed March 2006) Dr Paula Pitt (Hansky) worked in the Endocrine Unit at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre for 36 years, retiring in 2004. Her commitment to the community has been prominent throughout her life - in 1980 she established the ‘Friends of Peter Mac’ which was instrumental in attracting financial and political capital to enable the Centre to move to East Melbourne. She was awarded an OAM in 2000 for this work. She has had a long standing involvement with many other community organisations including the Bialystoker Centre, Australian Chapter of the Weizman Institute, Montefiore Homes and Jewish Care, Peter Mac Art Collection Committee. Mr Peter Schiavello (appointed April 2004) Mr Peter Schiavello is Deputy Managing Director of the Schiavello Group, a privately owned top 500 business and Australia’s leading integrator of advanced workplace design, technology, environment and construction. Mr Schiavello has made a significant contribution to the company’s success and growth from a family business to an international brand with offices throughout Australia, Japan, Singapore and the UAE. Mr Graeme Yarwood DipBusAdmin (appointed May 2002) Graeme Yarwood is the CEO of Val Morgan Cinema Advertising. Prior to this appointment, Mr Yarwood spent more than 20 years with the Nine Network. Graeme studied commerce at Melbourne University and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University in 1998. |
