Spring Appeal |
| Peter Mac has made promising progress in the fight against melanoma cancer. Charles Griffin, a successful businessman in his fifties, was diagnosed with melanoma three years ago when he had a suspicious-looking mole on his head tested. By the time it was discovered, the cancer had spread through his body. Melanoma is one of the most difficult cancers to combat once it has spread, and Charles found treatment options were limited. Yet, despite his bleak prognosis Charles is making marvellous progress due to a clinical trial he participated in at Peter Mac. The trial of the drug PLX4032 targets a gene mutation called BRAF, which causes melanoma to spread so rapidly. The drug remarkably shrank Charles’ tumours. A wonderful result! Your donation will enable us to fund more research projects like this, which have real potential of developing into life-saving treatments for those who have been diagnosed with cancer now and in the future. |
