Diversity at Peter Mac

Diversity at Peter Mac - Peter Mac Cancer Centre

Commitment to Cultural Diversity
The Peter Mac values cultural diversity and believes that consumers and staff have the right to fair and equal treatment.

It is important that the Peter Mac works to engage with consumers and staff on issues relating to cultural diversity to ensure that the care and services are equitable, accessible and valued by all.

What is Cultural Diversity?
Culture /Equality: is about creating a fairer society where everyone can participate and has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Diversity: is about recognising and valuing differences in its broadest sense. It is about creating a culture and practices that recognise, respect, value and harness difference from the benefit of the patients, carers, members of the public and members of staff.

The Cultural Diversity Committee
Australia is a culturally diverse nation, with Australians coming from more than 200 different ancestries and speaking more than 300 different languages at home. Cultural diversity has been a prominent feature of the Australian population for many decades.

Australia has effectively managed this cultural diversity with proactive and positive multicultural policies that have fostered social inclusion and embraced cultural linguistic and faith diversity

Cultural Diversity is an important issue for the Peter Mac. To ensure we are meeting the expectations of our multicultural and diverse consumers, the Cultural Diversity Committee was established in 2005.

The Cultural Diversity Committee has been established to ensure that Peter Mac services and the cultural capacity of its staff meets the particular needs of individuals and diverse communities. It also seeks to ensure that the organisation responds to views expressed by consumers and reviews key strategic objectives in light of these.

The Cultural Diversity Committee welcomes all feedback from patients which will assist in improving the care and services that Peter Mac provides.
