Acute Oncology Nursing care in the community including patients for Home and Community Care (HACC), Hospital in the Home (HITH) and Post Acute Care (PAC).

Patient Group: Patients from all oncology streams benefit from our service including those that require some forms of chemotherapy and related agents, exudrain management, central line management, injections, wound care, radiotherapy reaction area care and other care required post discharge.

Staffing Profile: Peter Mac at Home operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year allowing us to provide the best possible outcomes for patients, relatives and staff. We benefit from:
  • Full time Nurse Manager
  • 2 Associate Nurse Unit Managers (ANUM), a Community Liaison Nurse (CLN) and a dynamic team of specialised oncology community nurses
  • The flexibility of autonomous nursing practice, allowing patients to receive oncology care that fits in with their lifestyle
  • Ongoing education for all staff and participation in research to ensure that best practise is utilised for the benefit of all patients.

Support for Staff: we encourage and support ongoing professional development through:
  • Competency based education and training related to cannulation and the administration of chemotherapy, and the provision of supportive care to manage the side effects of various cancer treatments and complications of the disease process
  • Mentoring program and regular nurse lead review of case studies
  • Access to a Certificate in Cancer and Palliative Care Nursing conducted by Peter Mac with credit to postgraduate diploma through the University of Melbourne and access to fee remission scholarships.
  • Access to education and training designed to meet the needs of nurses caring for our diverse group of patients.
