About our unit:
the Diagnostic Imaging Department offers a comprehensive range of general and specialist diagnostic, interventional and therapeutic services including Radio-Nuclide therapy.

Patient Group: all patients attending Peter Mac pass through the department many times during their cancer treatment and beyond.

Staffing Profile: diagnostic imaging operates Monday to Friday with a 24 hour on-call service:
  • Full time Nurse Manager
  • 1 Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) and a dynamic team of specialised radiology / oncology nurses
  • We provide comprehensive individualised patient care in both the inpatient and outpatient setting and assume responsibility for assessment, implementation, and evaluation of episodic care in various modalities within the unit
  • Ongoing education for all staff and participation in research to ensure that best practise is utilised for the benefit of all patients.

Support for Staff: we encourage and support ongoing professional development through:
  • Competency based education and training related to cannulation, conscious sedation and IV contrast
  • Mentoring program and regular nurse lead review of case studies
  • Access to a Certificate in Cancer and Palliative Care Nursing conducted by Peter Mac with credit to postgraduate diploma through the University of Melbourne and access to fee remission scholarships.
  • Access to education and training designed to meet the needs of nurses caring for our diverse group of patients.
