| Apheresis Unit: The Ian Cooper Cell Separator Unit Acting Nurse Unit Manager: James Badman About Our Unit: | ||
| The apheresis unit provides blood cell therapies in the form of donor and therapeutic apheresis services to inpatient and also the outpatient population. The types of procedures that we do include Haemopoietic Progenitor Cell (HPC-A) collections, therapeutic plasma exchange, photopheresis and red cell reductions. Working in direct partnership with the Haemaology Service to provide coordinated care, the apheresis nursing staff optimise care delivery by offering support to patients prior to the commencement of their apheresis treatment, and liaise with the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient care. The apheresis service accommodates outpatients for blood component therapies, encompassing patients from a variety of tumour streams. The apheresis unit is part of the Centre of Blood Cell Therapies unit, and participates in quality activities to maintain compliance to the Therapeutic Goods Authority – Code of Good Manufacturing – Human Blood and Tissues. The operational hours of the apheresis unit are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4.30pm, with an on call service to meet clinical requirements. The apheresis unit is located on Lower Level One of the Smorgan Family Building, and can be contacted on 03 96561219. | ||
